Mapandan is a small, landlocked municipality in central Pangasinan, about 205 km from Manila and roughly 29 km from the provincial capital, Lingayen. Originally part of Mangaldan, it became its own pueblo in 1887 and takes its name from the fragrant pandan plant once abundant in the area. Mapandan is made up of 15 barangays: Amanoaoac, Apaya, Aserda, Baloling, Coral, Golden, Jimenez, Lambayan, Luyan, Nilombot, Pias, Poblacion, Primicias, Santa Maria, and Torres. From Manila, the usual route is NLEX to SCTEX to TPLEX, exiting toward the MacArthur Highway corridor and continuing into Pangasinan; provincial buses (Victory Liner, Five Star, and Dagupan Bus among others) run from Manila terminals in Cubao, Pasay, and Caloocan to Dagupan City and other Pangasinan hubs, from where jeepneys, vans, and tricycles cover the remaining distance into Mapandan. Within the municipality, tricycles are the main way to move between Poblacion and the outlying barangays.
